Uninteresting is how I would describe myself as of late, which explains my absence on the blog. That is not to say I am not interested in things, just check out my Pinterest page and you will find me pinning away. I don’t have cute little kids to brag about, I don’t have any special skills to write home about either. My blog is mostly fluff, things I come across that I cannot get out of my mind. To be honest, I have a list of things I want to blog about, I just need the motivation to do so.

I love it when a new Athleta catalog arrives in my mailbox. As I have mentioned before, the catalog not only showcases the latest in workout gear, their models serve as inspiration to get off the couch and do something! Now if only I could shake this stupid sinus stuff I have been plagued with I could actually get back to a kick butt workout routine.

I am glad to see they got my favorite model Monica Carlson back!

The Post

Most of you know that I work full time for the Postal Service (as a project manager/engineer, not a "mailman"). So it seems only fitting that I love stationary and paper products in general. I love it when local stationer Whitney English has a warehouse sale, I go to town grabbing practically everything in sight!

I love seeing articles on the hopefully-not dying art of the hand written note. I do my best to write thank you notes and probably spend more time deciding which note card to use than thinking of what to write.

I came across this little diddy (yes I said diddy) in the latest Town&Country magazine. With that said, let the hand written note tradition carry on.

Retin A Rules

Recently I was chatting with a friend about Retin A (and I may have given her some samples that I received from my dermatologist). When I first started using prescription Retin A products a few years ago, the only basic advice I received was start slowly and only use a small amount at each application. So this got me thinking that I should let you all know what has worked for me. Please note I am not a medical professional of any sorts and this information is based on my personal experience only.

The first product I was prescribed was Retin A MICRO.

The product is now available in a pump, which I suppose helps in administering an “appropriate” amount. When I used the product it was just in a metal tube like the picture, nothing fancy. I started off using this every other day and still had a lot of red flaky patches, which were more embarrassing than wrinkles or acne. I returned to my dermatologist who then prescribed a lowered dosed product, Atralin.

The MICRO product is a .1% strength and the Atralin is a .05% strength. You are thinking okay, no big deal, but let me tell you it is a big deal. I can now use the Atralin every night and wake up with only minimal flakes. You want flakes, that means the product is working to shed your old skin to reveal new fresh skin.

Okay, now on to my routine and recommendations. As you have gathered from above, I prefer to use the Atralin product. Each night after I wash my face using Cetaphil and my Clarisonic, I apply a thin layer of Atralin all over my face, avoiding the eye area. (I use a separate eye cream on and around my eyes because I like them to be moisturized and the Retin A can be drying.) I need to start applying the Atralin to my neck to avoid saggy-neck-ness, **note to self**. As far as “thin layer” goes, I probably use a total amount equivalent to 1 1/2 peas. After I wait a few minutes for the product to set in I apply a light moisturizer all over my face, to combat any dryness (I might skip this step in the summer when my skin is more oily). In the morning I use a gentle scrubbing face wash to exfoliate any flaky patches. I then apply a topical exfoliator to ensure I got rid of all the flakes.

This is the process that I have found to work best on my combination skin. If you have dry skin you will definitely want to start off using as little Retin A as possible, perhaps only on problem areas. I would also suggest to start using the product in your mid 20’s, before wrinkles really start to become an issue. Yes Retin A is mainly prescribed to combat acne, but fighting wrinkles is an awesome side affect, if you will. When I get random blemishes I use a benzoyl peroxide product in conjunction with my Retin A. Please note that unless you have super awesome health insurance (does such a thing even exist anymore???), you will still have to pay some out of pocket money for the product. If you compare the prescription to OTC product costs, they might be pretty darn close (not to mention a prescription tube can last you a long time, not sure you can say the same about OTC brands). Also be sure to ask your doctor for samples so you can try it before getting an entire tube. They might also have coupons too, doesn't hurt to ask.

Another important piece of information when using any Retin A product is to be sure to wear sunscreen, as it makes your skin more prone to burn. But we already know that we should wear sunscreen daily, right?

I hope that at least one person finds this information helpful and useful. I have not really used any OTC Retin A based products and cannot attest to their effectiveness in comparison. If you have health insurance and can get a doctor to prescribe you Retin A I definitely recommend doing so. And if you find the one he prescribes to be to harsh, go back and request a different strength. I believe some products now come in cream based versions, which may also combat some dryness. Bottom line is don't give up if the first product you try gives you terrible or unexpected results.

Again, I am not an expert and do not claim to have perfect skin, I just think this is useful information to those considering prescription strength Retin A products. If you have more tips or suggestions on Retin A I would love to hear them!

I will follow up in another post on what kind of moisturizers, scrubs and exfoliants I like to use.

I don't think I have done any "favorite things" posts lately, so let's play catch up.

Studio pants from Lulu, so comfy I want to (and actually have been) wear them all the time, plus they are great for the gym.

While we are talking about Lulu I should mention my new favorite top is their Cool Racerback. I like the longer length and that it is snug enough to not ride up during explosive moves.

And last but not least from Lulu is their Flow Y bra, a perfect fit under the CRB and supportive enough for cardio activities.

And for those of you who think it is dinkulous to spend this kind of money on clothes to sweat in, let me say it is worth it. As long as you don't put Lulu things in the dryer they last forever. And they don't pill, stretch out or fade, definitely worth the extra $$ in my book.

I came across this list of 12 Things on a new to me blog that I think I am going to be spending more time visitng . With the new year ahead I thought this list was very fitting. As I mentioned earlier I am not into resolutions, but I do find these kinds of lists to be very inspiring, I hope you think the same.

12 Things Happy People Do Differently

1. Express gratitude. – When you appreciate what you have, what you have appreciates in value. Kinda cool right? So basically, being grateful for the goodness that is already evident in your life will bring you a deeper sense of happiness. And that’s without having to go out and buy anything. It makes sense. We’re gonna have a hard time ever being happy if we aren’t thankful for what we already have.

2. Cultivate optimism. – Winners have the ability to manufacture their own optimism. No matter what the situation, the successful diva is the chick who will always find a way to put an optimistic spin on it. She knows failure only as an opportunity to grow and learn a new lesson from life. People who think optimistically see the world as a place packed with endless opportunities, especially in trying times.

3. Avoid over-thinking and social comparison. – Comparing yourself to someone else can be poisonous. If we’re somehow ‘better’ than the person that we’re comparing ourselves to, it gives us an unhealthy sense of superiority. Our ego inflates – KABOOM – our inner Kanye West comes out! If we’re ‘worse’ than the person that we’re comparing ourselves to, we usually discredit the hard work that we’ve done and dismiss all the progress that we’ve made. What I’ve found is that the majority of the time this type of social comparison doesn’t stem from a healthy place. If you feel called to compare yourself to something, compare yourself to an earlier version of yourself.

4. Practice acts of kindness. – Performing an act of kindness releases serotonin in your brain. (Serotonin is a substance that has TREMENDOUS health benefits, including making us feel more blissful.) Selflessly helping someone is a super powerful way to feel good inside. What’s even cooler about this kindness kick is that not only will you feel better, but so will people watching the act of kindness. How extraordinary is that? Bystanders will be blessed with a release of serotonin just by watching what’s going on. A side note is that the job of most anti-depressants is to release more serotonin. Move over Pfizer, kindness is kicking ass and taking names.

5. Nurture social relationships. – The happiest people on the planet are the ones who have deep, meaningful relationships. Did you know studies show that people’s mortality rates are DOUBLED when they’re lonely? WHOA! There’s a warm fuzzy feeling that comes from having an active circle of good friends who you can share your experiences with. We feel connected and a part of something more meaningful than our lonesome existence.

6. Develop strategies for coping. – How you respond to the ‘craptastic’ moments is what shapes your character. Sometimes crap happens – it’s inevitable. Forrest Gump knows the deal. It can be hard to come up with creative solutions in the moment when manure is making its way up toward the fan. It helps to have healthy strategies for coping pre-rehearsed, on-call, and in your arsenal at your disposal.

7. Learn to forgive. – Harboring feelings of hatred is horrible for your well-being. You see, your mind doesn’t know the difference between past and present emotion. When you ‘hate’ someone, and you’re continuously thinking about it, those negative emotions are eating away at your immune system. You put yourself in a state of suckerism (technical term) and it stays with you throughout your day.

8. Increase flow experiences. – Flow is a state in which it feels like time stands still. It’s when you’re so focused on what you’re doing that you become one with the task. Action and awareness are merged. You’re not hungry, sleepy, or emotional. You’re just completely engaged in the activity that you’re doing. Nothing is distracting you or competing for your focus.

9. Savor life’s joys. – Deep happiness cannot exist without slowing down to enjoy the joy. It’s easy in a world of wild stimuli and omnipresent movement to forget to embrace life’s enjoyable experiences. When we neglect to appreciate, we rob the moment of its magic. It’s the simple things in life that can be the most rewarding if we remember to fully experience them.

10. Commit to your goals. – Being wholeheartedly dedicated to doing something comes fully-equipped with an ineffable force. Magical things start happening when we commit ourselves to doing whatever it takes to get somewhere. When you’re fully committed to doing something, you have no choice but to do that thing. Counter-intuitively, having no option – where you can’t change your mind – subconsciously makes humans happier because they know part of their purpose.

11. Practice spirituality. – When we practice spirituality or religion, we recognize that life is bigger than us. We surrender the silly idea that we are the mightiest thing ever. It enables us to connect to the source of all creation and embrace a connectedness with everything that exists. Some of the most accomplished people I know feel that they’re here doing work they’re “called to do.”

12. Take care of your body. – Taking care of your body is crucial to being the happiest person you can be. If you don’t have your physical energy in good shape, then your mental energy (your focus), your emotional energy (your feelings), and your spiritual energy (your purpose) will all be negatively affected. Did you know that studies conducted on people who were clinically depressed showed that consistent exercise raises happiness levels just as much as Zoloft? Not only that, but here’s the double whammy… Six months later, the people who participated in exercise were less likely to relapse because they had a higher sense of self-accomplishment and self-worth.

New Year

Okay, I am just going to say it, I am not into New Year's resolutions. Now that is not to say that in the past I have not written out lengthy resolutions and goals. My problem with making such lists is that I seem to forget about them 2 weeks into January. One thing that I have found to kind of work for me are setting themes for the year. Last year one of my themes was reducing clutter. To reach that goal I did eliminate some things from my home environment. Every time a got a call soliciting clothing and household item donations I did my best to have at least 1 box to donate. This year I am going to continue the theme and amp it up to reduce "things" and save more. I have never really been a saver so that is going to be a tough one for me to achieve.

Cheers to a fabulous new year ahead of us, may it be filled with good health, great friends and lots of cherished memories.

I came across this list of "10 Steps to Abundance" by Carolyn Blakeslee and thought what appropriate timing. Here's to an abundant Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Make a list of what you desire. List your desires—not wants or needs, which imply lack of, rather than abundance of, something. By saying/thinking/writing, “I desire [this] or something even better now manifesting for the good of all concerned,” you create room for even greater possibilities.

Remember a situation of abundance. If you catch yourself wallowing in a bad memory or engaging in “stinkin’thinkin’,” call up a contrasting memory in which you felt rich, beautiful, accomplished, capable—whatever state of being you desire.

Align with your passions. By taking even a small step toward a passion or goal that nurtures you, you will feel cleaner, clearer and more energetic, thus opening the way for progress. God has a plan for your life and His deep desire for His creation—you—is for you to flourish.

Look forward. List your most cherished dreams and immediate intentions. Better yet, pull pictures from a past happy time and cut out magazine pictures that represent the good things you desire in your future, and then paste them in a journal or on a poster board to refer to during moments of reflection.

I think I might have mentioned this subject on here before, but I have an obsession with hair. Some girls look through magazines and drool over the clothes, me, I am a sucker for luscious locks. In fact, I have an entire board on Pinterest dedicated to hair.

This image from one of my favorite sites stopped me in my tracks this morning. How does one get their hair so shiny? My husband would say "Um, try washing your hair more than 3 times a week". Pfft, I loathe washing and styling my hair. BUT if a stylist told me that daily washing was the secret to shiny locks I might change my tune. So if you have any tips on shiny hair, please share!

Finally Fall

Catching Up on My "Stack"

Yes friends, my stack of magazines still lingers. I must admit that I am cutting down on my subscriptions, regardless I still have plenty of good reads. One magazine that continues to surprise me is Better Homes and Gardens. This was the first magazine I think I ever subscribed too, back in college. I could not wait to get out of the dingy college housing we had and into a "home" that I could decorate in my style.

Over the years I subscribed to BHG off and on and more recently only subscribed because I received a killer offer of something like 1 year for $5. I also get all the high end shelter magazines to drool over but as of late, in my opinion, BHG has been on target as far as style goes, less DIY and more designer like features.

Case in point is this home featured in the September issue, designed by Tia Zoldan. Tia, you have a new fan.

I found this picture of the same room from somebody's personal photograph (attending a baby shower in the home). I like to see the difference between real life styling vs. professional styling for photo shoots.

How Does She Do It?

Loving this picture, however I must ask myself how she scoots around town on a Vespa in heels and a skirt? When I had my Vespa (sniffle) I had an entire wardrobe dedicated to "scoot wear", clothes that were scooter appropriate. That usually meant cropped pants, embellished t's and fairly appropriate footwear (I might have worn wedges a few times).

Just thought I would throw out a little PSA to all you homeowners out there. Right now interest rates are at an all time low and you should reconsider refinancing your home if you have not done so recently. I am currently in the process of refinancing our home and when it is all said and done will save over $500 a month. That is huge people! If you are in the Oklahoma City area and need a mortgage broker let me know.

When I get a catalog or find a website that does not have a local retailer in my area I heavily depend on customer reviews posted on the website. How do you evaluate something you have never physically put your hands on? I am also sure to review the company's return policy, just in case.

Summer Refreshment

I have been on the hunt for a drink dispenser for a while but don't really care for the usual ones around. Then I spied this beauty, via NapaStyle.

I love that it is large and has the cork-like top. This would make a unique wedding or house warming gift.

Need a recipe to fill it, try this one.

Airmail Punch (via InStyle July 2011, via Jim Meehan, manager of a bar in NYC - thus making it automatically cool, right?)

This recipe serves 8, so you will probably want to at least double it to half-way fill the above container.

1 bottle of champagne

1 1/4 cups of white rum

2/3 cups fresh lime juice

1 3/4 cups honey water*

Add all ingredients to a container and serve over ice

*Honey Water

1 3/4 cups water

3/4 cup clover honey (local preferred)

Bring water to a boil, then turn off heat and add honey. Stir until honey dissolves. Chill before adding to punch.

Enjoy and don't forget to invite me over too!

Outdoor Oasis

I know it has been posted several times in the blogisphere this week, but I can't help referring back to Courtney Cox's newly redesigned Malibu home featured in Elle Decor. My favorite space has to be her back "yard".

I can totally picture myself lounging in this space.

Another gorgeous space, which I assume is right off the master bedroom.

I LOVE a firepit and keep asking my husband for one. I like the smart thinking of the glass wall to shield the wind off the beach.

Worth a Shot

I came across this picture the other day. That is Pippa Middleton (Kate's little sis) back diving off a relative's boat. Dreamy, all of it. What caught my eye the most is how gracious Pippa looks, in her chic white swimsuit and all. With that said I have a confession to make, I have a pool in my own back yard and am not all that good of a swimmer let alone do I know how to dive - my friends and family can attest to this.

During the last summer Olympics I was inspired to really start swimming so I went online and bought myself a cute Speedo swimsuit and some goggles. I swam a few times, got winded and immediately changed into my tanning suit and caught some rays. Once again I am inspired, who knows, maybe I will knock the socks off my friends' and do a back dive for them one of these days, you never know!

Sometimes I think I should have authored the blog Real Estalker because I love looking at homes and their interiors online. Yesterday I found this lovely over at Trulia. Here are some of the pictures that I about died over.

Love the landscaping and the copper gutters.

That tile is beautiful, I would however pick a different runner for the stairs.

The cabinetry, fridge and stove, LOVE! I would choose different stools however.

I about died over all the marble in this bath which is otherwise a bit to sparse for me. I think the tub - albeit pretty - looks lonely.

Self Promotion

One of the things I am not very good at is self promotion. With that said, I am working on this skill and am going to take this post to do just so. Last summer I studied and got my real estate license in the state of Oklahoma. Real estate has been a passion of mine since I was in college. Before moving to Oklahoma I even got my real estate license in Virginia while living in the DC area. I never had a real opportunity to take advantage of a license until recently and I jumped on the chance. One of my good friends owns a new home construction business and I market and sell his homes. I am very thankful for this break and that I have a great broker to learn from.

My ultimate goal would be to work in real estate full time, right now I still have my full time job at the Postal Service while working in real estate is my “hobby”, as my husband likes to call it. I used to say that I “wish” I could make real estate my career, but I have now realized that I need to change that “wish” to a “goal”. One step at a time I honestly believe I can reach this goal.

Last night we had some crazy storms and tornadoes in our area, but I am happy to say we are all safe and sound here in Norman. We did have a few minutes of fright as a tornado was headed straight toward our home and we headed to our neighbor's storm shelter. Luckily the twister took a turn and missed our neighborhood.

On a much lighter note I thought I would share a few pictures from my phone.

This morning as I was headed to work I noticed this huge web a spider had spun from my dash to the front seat. If you click on the picture to enlarge it you can see how crazy cool the web is.

The latest Title Nine catalog showed up in my mailbox today and as I flipped through the pages I couldn't help but itch to get outside and do something, anything. Now that the weather is getting nicer I want to be outside - as long as the winds are not howling like they have been lately. Now if only we had some nice parks and a beach nearby...

These pictures make me think back how as kids we would play outside from dawn til dusk and go to bed exhausted. I go to bed exhausted sometimes but I don't think it is from playing, makes me think I need more playing in my day.

When I arrived home after work yesterday I went out back with the dogs to soak up some of the glorious sun. As I peered down at the ground I saw this, a tiny snake.

Owen was not sure what to make of it, but Lexie knew she wanted a piece of him.

Alas, not to be upstaged by an 8 pound pup, Owen decided to go all in for it. Luckily I pulled him away before mister snake bit Owen in the nose.

This page from the latest Redbook magazine caught my eye the other day. Wouldn’t we all love to have a linen closet this organized? The key to achieving this look is to keep just the essentials in there. Do we really need 14 sets of sheets? How many extra towels do you need – do you keep some stashed in the bathroom as well?

My linen closet is more of a “linen stack hallway” of sorts. I have numerous sets of sheets – which I only use when I need to cover something up in the attic. What about all those dish towels, they have been stashed away in there since we moved in, do I really need to hang on to them? How many pillows and comforters do I really need to hang on to?

I must admit that I do stock up on paper products – toilet tissue, Kleenex and paper towels – from our local wholesale club. However this picture shows that you can still keep all those rolls and boxes organized.

I really like how those clear plastic bins corral all those extra toiletries and such. Again, where can I petition to get a Container Store in my state?!?!?

On a related side note, I have been on a cleaning-out kick as of late. I try to go through a cabinet or drawer each day and get rid of (either trash or donate) at least 3 things. When was the last time you went through your medicine cabinet or your junk drawer?

I also have been combing through my closet, creating a large donation box of items for the next agency that calls and offers a pickup. Now that the change of seasons is upon us what better time to look through your clothes and ask yourself if you wore each item over the past 6 months. If the answer is no then donate.

I am not saying I am happy we got hit with a blizzard yesterday, but if I am going to be honest, I was a tad glad. For the past week and a half I have been cooped up in a training class for work and things at home have been very busy. I am not complaining, but as my husband kindly pointed out last night, I have been neglecting my blog.

Yesterday I was able to catch up on my digital life a bit. I am in love with the new High Gloss online magazine. If you have yet to look at it, put it on your to do list. I also got creative (well creative for me anyway) in the kitchen and whipped up some chicken salad. Any my Dyson got a bit of preventive maintenance. Good times. Last night I was flipping through the January/February issue of Whole Living and came across this year's best self action plan. I don't normally buy into these "jump start your life in 4 weeks" kind of plans, but there were a few pieces that did stand out to me. Here are a few ideas I thought I would share with you.

Every year at the holidays I like to break out my baking arsenal and make yummy treats for my friends and family. One recipe that I go back to each year is this spiced nut recipe. What I'm Loving

It has been a while since I posted some of my favorite things, and with the holidays here I figured what a better time than now.

My husband can attest that my Frye boots are a staple in my wardrobe these days. They are actually very comfortable.

This Stella & Dot bracelet, which looks 10 times better in person (actually all of S&D's jewelry looks better in person than on their site), might just be sitting under my Christmas tree this year.

I can't believe I am typing this, but I got these jeggings from the Gap and they are so comfy I wear them any chance I get.

I got this Lululemon hoodie to keep me warm at my 5:30am bootcamp class and I must say it is an instant favorite. The material is very thick, the thumb holes are great for keeping my hands warm and the high neck keeps my chin and neck toasty. And let's be honest, have any of us met a piece of Lulu wear that we don't like? Yes it is pricey but it is worth it in my opinion.

To be honest I just got this brush a few days ago after lusting for a boar bristle brush forever. I don't know how I lived without this brush, it makes my hair shiny and soft, who doesn't love that?

I received a sample of this Clinique cream and after using it for a few weeks I can definitely tell a difference in my skin. I have a lot of brown spots on my face from the sun (boo hiss) and this has helped minimized their appearance. I am just about out of the sample and am going to buy a full size ASAP.

Holiday Eating Tips

I got this list in one of those mass forwarded emails, I thought it was too funny not to share.

1.Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday
buffet table knows nothing of the Holiday spirit. In fact, if you see
carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum
balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare...
You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares
that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to
turn into an eggnog-alcoholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one
for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole
point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out
of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with
skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a
sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort
to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Holiday party is to
eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and
New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do.
This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet
table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet
table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa,
position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of
each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin.
Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with
the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have
some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave
the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.
Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand and wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Find Your Happy

The other night at our Junior League meeting we had a little ice breaker where we wrote down things that make us happy and then had to find our match with somebody else in the room. This was very thought provoking on my part because I don’t know that I necessarily have favorites, but I gave it a shot. Below is my list that I wanted to share with you. What is your happy?

What COLOR makes you happy? I don’t know that I have a particular color that makes me happy, but usually when I see things that are pink they bring a smile to my face.

What FOOD makes you happy? I put wine down for this answer, but everyone told me that wasn’t a food. Boo hiss! So my next choice would be a piece of toast with creamy peanut butter on top. I love the way the peanut butter melts into a gooey mess on the bread.

What TV SHOW makes you happy? Any show that makes me laugh makes me happy. These days I have been hooked on reruns of King of Queens. The characters on the show hit close to home and Doug just cracks me up.

What BOOK makes you happy? After the events of 9-11 I heard about a book called Love, Greg and Lauren. Lauren was severely burned in one of the towers and was given little chance of survival. The book chronicles emails her husband Greg wrote to friends and family on Lauren’s status. What I loved about the book was the courage and love the husband had. This is one of those books you will want to read again.

What SONG makes you happy? If I had to narrow down my love of music to one song that makes me happy I would pick Summertime by Wil Smith (known back then as DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince). Everytime I hear that song it brings me back to my high school days where I didn’t have a worry in the world.

What HOLIDAY makes you happy? Christmas time makes me happy, my favorite part is buying gifts for loved ones. I don’t just buy gifts to have something to give, I really put a lot of thought into what I buy, making sure each gift fits its recipient. I also love the chance to drag out all my decorations and bring cheer to my home.

What SMELL makes you happy? Anything that smells like the beach makes me happy. No question about it.

What WEATHER makes you happy? The sun has such a huge impact on my mood. When its out I can’t help be happy and when it is hiding behind clouds so is my smile.

Gwyn Goes Country

Gwyneth Paltrow hit the premiere of her new movie "Country Strong" in Nashville on Monday night wearing a little black dress by Ralph Rucci that was sheer along her ribcage and down to her bellybutton. I don't know if I love the dress but I am loving her hair and makeup in this picture.

A New Director in Town

I am late to the game on this post but an article in the September Fast Company magazine (yes, I am just now getting around to reading it!) featured Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the new Director of Fashion for Lincoln Center. What does that title mean? This year New York's fall fashion week moved from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center and Stephanie, 39, was in charge of the whole shabang, pretty cool job.

A few months back I posted about the new look of Town & Country magazine and Stephanie was included in the pictures. If you have a few minutes I suggest reading the Fast Company article, it talks about Wolkoff's tenure at Vogue. And yes, her grandfather is the infamous jeweler Harry Winston. You can also catch a glimpse of her Park Avenue home here.

I love that even at 6'1" she still wears high heels.

A Little More Dinky

Owen's nickname of late has been Dinky, just can't help but call him that. Last night I was sitting on the couch messing around on my Mac and he kept bringing me his little pink ball to throw. He was obsessed with catching the ball so much that he wore himself out. I snapped this picture quickly with my phone and had to share.

I also snapped this picture of him the other day, I just love how pretty his hair is these days.

Bootcamp

I don’t think I have mentioned much lately about my latest fitness routine. For the past month and a half I have been doing a bootcamp three days a week at 5:30 in the morning. Yes it is early but it is worth it, ensures I get my workout done for the day before meetings and excuses creep into my schedule. I really like the classes, mainly because I don’t have to think about what exercise I need to do, the instructor leads us from one move to the next, for an hour straight.

This morning our workout consisted of using pumpkins for various exercises. At first I thought no problem, but after a half hour my pumpkin felt like it weighed 20 pounds and by the end of the hour my shoulders were crying for mercy. Another bonus for the camp is that I really like our instructor, she always has new workouts planned for us and keeps us on our toes. She also uses all kinds of new techniques like ropes and slosh tubes that are incorporated into functional training.

If you are local to Norman and want to shake up your workouts I definitely suggest giving this camp a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Pumpkins

I wish everyone a safe Halloween this weekend. I am not sure if I am doing the whole dress up thing, but we are having a little neighborhood block party Sunday night and I need to come up with something. Any suggestions for something easy?

Coach

I love when I get goodies in the mail, like yesterday. I received a nice glossy card from Coach with a gift card for $50 inside. The first thing that pops into my mind when I think Coach are their bags. Since I am not in the market for a new bag I decided to peruse their shoe section (remember these beauties I scored earlier, I just love them and have a new found love for Coach shoes). I love everything about the party set up from the colors to the flowers to the napkins. Perfection! I would love to have a dinner party like this, some day I suppose.

When the latest issue of Vogue arrived in my mailbox I had to do a double take of the cover girl. At first glance I thought it was Eva Mendez but it is actually Anne Hathaway. Anne was shot by Mario Testino and looks absolutely stunning. I also enjoyed the interview with Anne, very much looking forward to her latest film. These photos and the article have given me even more appreciation for the actress.

The Hass Avocado

Here is an interesting story I came across about the beginnings of the Hass avocado.

Go to any produce section and pick up an avocado. More often than not, you’ll be holding a Hass avocado — a variety that accounts for 80 percent of the fruit produced commercially worldwide and which has a unique connection to USPS.

This particular avocado was patented by a former postal employee — Letter Carrier Rudolph Hass of Pasadena, CA — who died Oct. 24, 1952. During the 1920s, Hass read an article that included an illustration of an avocado tree with dollar bills hanging from its branches. Hass was intrigued by the idea of making money from the fruit, especially since his starting wage at the Post Office was 60 cents an hour.

Hass purchased seeds from a customer and planted them in a small grove he purchased in La Habra Heights. As the seeds sprouted and grew into trees, he hired a professional to graft cuttings from existing trees onto the strongest seedlings. They soon produced large, luscious fruit with a dark, pebbly skin — unlike avocados previously grown.

In 1935, Hass received a patent for his tree. As word spread about his avocados, other growers began to buy “bud wood” from the letter carrier for grafting onto other trees.
Eventually, this single parent tree became the source for a new product. Today, with sales of more than $1 billion in the U.S. alone, the Hass variety dominates the avocado world.

I came across this tear while reading my October issue of Haper's Bazaar, love everything shown. The ikat pattern on the DVF dress is just right in my opinion. Love the Topshop platform loafers. A red trench, very daring. What I like best about these pieces are that the prices are not too far out of reach.

I also think these pieces are great transitions into cooler weather, don't you?

Do You Do Fall Decor?

Each year come October I pull out my ceramic and grapevine pumpkins, scarecrow and fall flower arrangements. This year however I just didn't want the additional clutter in my house. On my porch sure, on my dining table, not so much. So I was wondering, do you spruce your home up in the fall with seasonal decor?

This is a house in my neighborhood that I vote best fall decor. I wish I was this creative, sigh.

Well Rested

Greetings friends, I hope you are all as well rested as I am. I must have been totally wiped last week because this weekend I snuck in all kinds of extra naps and sleep. I even managed to squeeze in some good alone time to catch up on my "reading", I love those kinds of weekends. Knowing that I got my chores done around the house makes my down time even more satisfying.

Besides restful slumber I was busy around the house getting ready for a special house guest arriving later this week. My best girlfriend is coming to visit from Ohio and I have all kinds of things planned for us including shopping, pedicures, catching up and even a 5k race.

Since I have a short work week ahead of me I need to make the most of my time, which means to-do lists left and right. Bring it!

The other day I received the latest Boden catalog and fell in love with a ton of things. Any of you have any experience buying from them? I know they do the whole UK sizing thing and that they offer free shipping and returns, but still want to know how their sizes run.

Yes I am still alive and kicking friends. I have been busy to say the least, but I love it, keeps me on my toes. Last week I was in a training class for my full time job, let's just say it was not fun and kept me away from all my blog friends.

To catch you up to speed on what has been going on lately, we did indeed sell the scoot to a gentleman that lives just down the road for us. Sniffle, I will miss the scoot but know we got rid of it for the right reasons. I also got a new car last Friday. No I was not looking for one but Kevin and I stopped at the new VW dealership here in Norman and we saw the new Tiguans (small SUV) which we had been eyeing since they came out this summer. Long story short, I traded my sporty red convertible for a sleek white SUV. I love it.

I also came across this picture in an email this morning and thought it was fitting. I don't know if it is the weather changing, my new workload or the 5:30 am bootcamps but I have not been in the best of moods lately. So this is an official notice to mood swings to take a hike, I am done with you!

Oh and did I mention we had an earthquake here in Norman yesterday? Was crazy. I was sitting at my desk drinking a most delicious cup of coffee when all of a sudden the walls started shaking, the pictures on my windowsill fell off and it sounded like a truck crashed into our building. Soon after we found out it was a 5.1 earthquake. Who knew.

So raise a cup of coffee in honor of finishing out the week with a glorious bang!

Time to Say Goodbye

Hi friends, you still out there? Sorry that I have been MIA as of late, just a lot of new things going on and I am still working on finding a good balance of my free time.

Well I have some kind of sad news, I am selling my scooter. About a month ago it hit me that with my new venture in real estate and the fact I have to be presentable at all times in case I need to meet with a client, the scoot doesn't always lend itself to fit my needs. I am not saying I have to wear heels or a skirt every day but let's face it, the windblown look only gets you so far. Plus I feel like I am getting too old for the scoot. I am not saying 35 is old by any means, but one day I was riding to work and passed the middle school kids at the bus stop and I just got this feeling they were laughing at the "old lady on the scooter". I mean really, am I going to be 40 years old and still riding a scooter? I just don't see it. You can feel free to disagree but I just think it is time to say goodbye, it was a great ride.

A magazine I look forward to receiving each month is Marie Claire. I think their fashion spreads are right on and fairly attainable for the average female. Tim Gunn also has a column that I enjoy - real advice we can use. They also have well written stories, not necessarily fashion related but still current.

This month's cover girl, Katie Holmes, looking gorgeous as ever.

I also loved seeing the retrospective on Michael Kors.

I just had to share a few pages from the October People Style Watch magazine with you all. And speaking of magazines, I am slowly getting caught up on my never ending pile so be prepared for a lot of scanned pages!

Really liking some of these nude pieces, although I am not sure the color works well with my skin tone. I am really liking the ruffled shoes.

The J. Crew leather jacket is to die for! Classic style and color as well.

This past Saturday was my friend Shelley's 30th birthday and her husband surprised her with a night out on the town with friends. Doable Fashion

Unless you have been living in a cave the past few days, you have seen many spreads in the blog world highlighting fashion week. There have been a few designers that caught my eye in particular, due to the fact that I think their styles are actually for the every day woman. Sure we all love drooling over the evening gowns and such, but I like to get an idea of what I can wear.
